About
Balancing Akt

Hi, I’m Kat, a movement and meditation teacher, a resilience and balance coach, the founder of Balancing Akt, - but mostly I'm someone who learned to stand back up when life knocked me sideways.

I started life in Hamburg, Germany, born with a neurological defect that made the world feel a little louder and more intense for me than for most.

And though the rest of my early childhood was pretty calm, my father’s negligence excluded, by my teens, life had become increasingly unstable: between severe bullying at school, my stepfather's bipolar disorder, my mother deteriorating before my eyes, there seemed to be no safe place in this world. I was 15 when I contemplated whether life was worth living for the first time.

I chose not to give up, but as things worsened, my body screamed for help through allergies and chronic illness. Then came the unthinkable: my stepfather's suicide, leaving our family in financial ruin and emotional chaos. At 20, I escaped to England, desperate to put distance between me and my past.

Building My Own Recovery

I quickly learned the hard way that you can't outrun yourself - distance helps, but not without inner transformation. At the end of my first year at university, I hit rock bottom again - standing on Bournemouth pier one night, haunted by ghosts I couldn’t shake. That moment marked the point where everything began to shift.

Over the years, I began to build my own recovery toolkit. Yoga became an anchor, running cleared my head, and balanced, joyful nutrition became my medicine. I began to understand that resilience isn’t about being unshakeable - it’s about meeting yourself honestly, building the right support systems, and cultivating the strength to rise after every fall.

Ten years later, life tested me again when my marriage collapsed unexpectedly only 9 months in. Overnight, everything I relied on - home, job, financial security - disappeared. But this time, I wasn’t starting from zero. The tools I had spent years cultivating held me, and to my own surprise, I rebuilt not just a better life, but a stronger, clearer version of myself. That experience became the seed of Balancing Akt: the understanding that being knocked down isn’t a failure - it’s an invitation shed an old skin and rise transformed.

Today

My life is now built on purpose, joy, and a deep passion for helping others discover their own inner steadiness and design lives that actually feel like living. I continue to learn every day - in yoga studios, on runs, through my clients, from books, podcasts, and conversations and from the quiet wisdom that comes from simply being human.

I bring authenticity to this work - an understanding that life, and change, is genuinely hard and unique to every human being; belief that balance is a practice, not a destination; and a deep conviction that you have more strength within you than you realise.

Life is a balancing akt, and you don't have to figure it out alone.

PS: Yes…the business title is totally a play on my name. It was way too good of an opportunity to miss!

Corporate Career

When I say I understand the stress and exhaustion that an unbalanced life can bring, I mean it. I have spent 20+ years working in corporate event and marketing roles across the globe and appreciate the demands of a busy career especially when juggling days full of meetings, endless email and business travel with a long list of personal responsibilities. I have lived this life myself and can approach mindfulness and wellbeing conversations with empathy and a realistic methodology that supports career success rather than pauses it.
